A photograph album including press photographs from the 1948 London Olympic Games, The album containing approx. 175 photographs ranging in size from about 8 by 6 inches to 16 by 6 (a few panoramas) but mostly they are 10 by 8in., in b&w and various shades of sepia and the vast majority are in very good condition, of these 175 about 60 of the prints are specifically of the London Olympics 1948 and are credited to various now defunct picture agencies, some of which may now be amalgamated within the PA organisation, most of the Olympic prints are of athletes competing in the various sports, shot put, javelin, swimming and diving, high jump, the Marathon, walking race, various lengths of hurdle races (male and female) etc, but with some more intimate images of athletes mingling with spectators & compatriots as well as 'back stage' vignettes of the preparations for the Games and the Opening Ceremony, the collection offering a strong aura of the occasion and its place in time and with the Olympic ideal of amateurism prevailing strongly
