A 1948 London Olympic Games bearer's torch, designed by Ralph Lavers, aluminium alloy, the bowl pierced with Olympic Rings and bearing the legend XIVth OLYMPIAD 1948, OLYMPIA TO LONDON, WITH THANKS TO THE BEARER, height 1cm., 16in.; sold together with the torch bearer's (Mr J Brinton of Teignmouth) original letter of invitation from Lord Burghley, Chairman of the 1948 Organising Committee, dated 8th July 1948; his runner's instructions for the stage in Devon between Chudleigh Police Station and Toll Cottage, Rixey Park, at Chudleigh Knighton turning; and three photographs featuring Mr Brinton and other bearers during the relay through Devon on 2nd August 1948 (6)
