A good collection of memorabilia relating to the participation of the British women's gymnast Marion Wharton in the 1936 Berlin Olympic Games, comprising: i) a navy blue wool ladies blazer, the breast pocket embroidered with Olympic Rings, the Union Jack and inscribed OLYMPIC GAMES, 1936 ii) a rare survival in the form of a ladies silk gymnastics tunic, with silkwork Union Jack flag iii) a bronze participation medal iv) a competitor's badge No.2967 with ribbon stamped TURNEN v) two further badges, one of Olympic Rings, the other the Brandenburg Gate vi) a competitor's identity card vii) an autographed photograph of the Great Britain ladies gymnastics team showing Marion Wharton wearing the tunic that is being sold in this lot viii) interesting selection of other ephemera and photographs Marion Wharton (1908-1993) was born at Keighley, West Yorkshire. At the 1936 Berlin Olympic Games she competed as part of the women's team in the All-Around competition at the Dietrich Eckart Open Air Theatre, Imperial Sports Field, Berlin, on 12th August.
