A spool of 16mm Oxaphan film entitled 'Klaus Wagremann - Olympische Winterspiel 1936 - Christl Cranz', in a small round red printed tin canister; this film is offered with a copy on DVD (2) The opening caption reads: 'IV Olympic Winter Games in 1936 made ??on behalf of the Reich Fuhrer sports.' Christl Cranz was the dominant woman skier of the 1930s winning twelve world championship titles between 1934 and 1939, and was runner-up in three others. To this day these achievements remain unrivalled. At the 1936 Winter Olympics in Garmisch-Partenkirchen Cranz won the newly established alpine skiing combined competition (slalom and downhill). An incredible achievement as she had fell during the downhill and was in sixth place - 19 seconds behind the leader, Laila Schou-Nielsen - but charged back in two slalom races to win the gold medal. In the film three female skiers with ski equipment walk towards camera and on to starting gate of presumably the slalom race. Cranz (Deutschland) then descends from the starting gate onto a steep slope, we follow her down the course with fixed field cameras, struggling to negotiate the gates, the sides of the course filled with hundreds of spectators (No.11 on her back) until she passes successfully under the finish ''ZIEL'' Flag. She is followed by Kathe Grasegger (Deutschland) who came second and Laila Schou-Nilsen (Norway) who was third. A view of the Olympic flag finishes the film. Duration - 1 minute 53 secs. not illustrated
