A 1928 Amsterdam Olympic Games diploma awarded to Arthur Porritt as Chef de Mission for the New Zealand team, a striking Art Deco design in gold & black by Christian Johannes van der Hoef of Winged Nike above Olympic rings, signed by the Organising Committee President and the IOC President, printed by Senefelder, Amsterdam, framed & glazed, overall 83 by 61cm., 33 by 24in. Arthur Porritt, later The Lord Porritt, was captain of the New Zealand Olympic teams of 1924 and 1928. In Paris In 1924 he won the bronze medal behind Harold Abrahams in the 100m, the race made famous by the movie Chariots of Fire. He was also the New Zealand Member of the IOC 1934-1967. Professionally, Arthur Porritt was a distinguished surgeon and also for five years served at the Governor General of New Zealand. Porritt was knighted in 1950 and became a baronet in 1963.
