The outstanding collection of the Uruguayan footballer Juan Pedro Arremon gold medal winner at the 1928 Amsterdam Olympic Games, comprising: i) a 1928 Amsterdam Olympic Games gold prize medal for football, designed by Professor Giuseppe Cassioli of Florence with Victory seated above a stadium, the reverse with a winner being carried by jubilant athletes, in silver-gilt, gilding worn through over polishing ii) a 1928 Amsterdam Olympic Games gold medal winner's diploma, the striking Art Deco design by Cristiaan Johannes van der Hoef in black with extensive gilding portraying winged Nike above Olympic Rings, printed by Senefelder of Amsterdam iii) A 1928 Amsterdam Olympic Games participation medal, designed by J C Wienecke, in bronze, nude male & female athletes standing on a podium holding a torch above the Olympic flame, the reverse with Nike over Marathon Tower, the shield of Amsterdam between two hemispheres iv) a 1928 Amsterdam Olympic Games competitor's badge, in bronze & enamel, Olympic Rings and inscribed IXe OLYMPIADE, AMSTERDAM, 1928, CONCURRENT v) a group of four badges/medals awarded to Arremon after his return to Uruguay from Amsterdam, comprising an 18ct. gold & enamel badge from the Uruguayan Football Association, a silver & enamel badge from the Directors of the Uruguayan Olympic Association, a lapel badge commemorating the Olympic victory with enamel national flag and football, and a silver medal inscribed CAMPEONES, COLOMBES, AMSTERDAN vi) The football boots worn by Juan Arremon in the 1928 Amsterdam Olympic Games football final v Argentina complete with original laces vii) a glass football brought back to Uruguay by Arremon as a souvenir, inscribed OLYMPIADE, 1928, AMSTERDAM viii) a solicitor's affidavit of authenticity for the Arremon collection Juan Pedro Arremon (1899-1979) was born in Montevideo and was a forward who played for Penarol between 1919 and 1931. He played 14 times for Uruguay. At the 1928 Amsterdam Games, Arremon played in the match when Uruguay defeated the host nation Netherlands 2-0 in the first round match, but did not appear in the starting XI again until the replay of the final tie when Uruguay beat their South American neighbours Argentina 2-1 at the Olympic Stadium 13th June 1928. The final, played 3 days earlier, had ended 1-1.
