A blue & white Delftware plate commemorating the 1928 Amsterdam Olympic Games, featuring the Olympic Rings and Motto, laurel, the inscription N.O.C. and curiously a motor cyclist, attractively mounted in blue velvet within a maple veneer frame, diameter of plate 23cm, 9in., overall 40cm., 15 3/4in. square The decoration on this dish includes a racing motorcyclist. Further research since the publication of the catalogue shows that it is plausible that the dish was marketed to visitors at the Assen International Tourist Trophy motorcycle road races. These preceded the Amsterdam Olympic Games, taking place on June 23rd 1928. A further race meeting (Dutch National) was held at Assen on 11th August, the day before the Closing Ceremony of the Amsterdam Games.
