Hammer Price:

Estimated Price:

£260 - £320

The autograph of Nedo Nadi widely regarded as the greatest fencer in the history of the sport and winner of five gold medals at the 1920 Antwerp Olympic Games, a full ink signature on a banker's cheque stamped with dates 1930/1931; sold together with two items of correspondence informally signed either Nedo or Nadi (3) Nedo Nadi is the only Olympic fencer to have won gold medals in each of the three weapons at a single Games. His haul of five gold medals at one Games in 1920 remained a record until Mark Spitz won seven swimming golds at Munich in 1972. Nadi won six gold medals in total as he claimed victory in the foil individual at Stockholm in 1912, and was also the youngest fencer to have won gold aged just 18. One wonders how many more he would have claimed as a result of the cancellation of the 1916 Olympic Games.
