Jim Lewis's silver London XI runners-up medal from the inaugural Inter-Cities Fairs Cup awarded after the two-legged final v Barcelona, the obverse engraved with an image of the competition's trophy, the reverse inscribed COUPE DES VILLES DE FOIRES, TROPHEE NOEL BEARD, FINALISTE, 1957, on a small, later chain The first Inter-Cities Fairs Cup was a long, drawn out affair with sporadic games played between June 1955 and May 1958, even the two legs of the final were played two months apart. The medal is actually incorrectly inscribed with the date 1957 as the final drifted into the following year. The competition was probably originally intended to be concluded by 1957 but drifted into 1958 along the way through other fixture commitments. The first leg of the final was played at Stamford Bridge between a London XI and a Barcelona XI and ended in a 2-2 draw. Chelsea's Jim Lewis only played in the 2nd Leg at the Nou Camp where the home team dominated to record a 6-0 victory and win the competition 8-2 on aggregate. Interestingly, Joe Mears managed the home leg, whilst Billy Milne led the London XI in Spain
