This was to prove to be Henry Cockburn's final match for England, with the Manchester United player losing the competition for the No.6 shirt with Portsmouth's Jimmy Dickinson. Manchester United's Henry Cockburn won a total of 13 caps between 1946 and 1951, a figure almost certainly restricted by the suspension of full international football between 1939 and 1946.
