A silver plated miniature replica of the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup Trophy presented to Laszlo Kubala of Barcelona following the victory over Birmingham City in 1960 final, inscribed TROFEO COPA FERIAS, 1958-60, on turned ebonised base, height 17cm., 6 3/4in. Laszlo Kubala (1927-2002) was born in Budapest and is an unusual figure in that he represented three teams at international level, Czechoslovakia, Hungary and Spain. He was a mainstay of the fine Barcelona team of the 1950s. The prolific striker scored 194 goals in 256 appearances for the Catalan club and a statue has been erected in his honour in the grounds of the Camp Nou. He was particularly famed for his free kicks and his ability to bend the ball with pace and accuracy. He later coached at Barcelona as well as the Spanish national team as well as many other appointments. Kubala's last assignment was as national coach of Paraguay in 1995.
