A 1968 UEFA European Football Championship runners-up medal, in .925 continental silver by Huguenin, the obverse designed with a football over a map of Europe, the reverse inscribed U E F A CHAMPIONNAT D'EUROPE, 1968, FINALISTE, suspended with medal ribbon The original recipient of this medal is unknown. The runners-up were Yugoslavia who were defeated 2-0 by hosts Italy in a final tie replay played at the Olympic Stadium, Rome, 10th June 1968. Unusually the drawn final had been played on the same day at the same stadium as the 3rd/4th play-off between England and USSR. This was the first time the tournament was known as the UEFA European Football Championship, the earlier editions of 1960 & 1964 were known as the European Nations Cup.
