Two 9ct. gold & enamel medals awarded to Watford FC Director George Timberlake, the first inscribed S.F.L., SOUTHERN LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP, WATFORD F.C., RUNNERS-UP, 1919-20, G. TIMBERLAKE, DIRECTOR; the second inscribed WATFORD & DISTRICT FOOTBALL LEAGUE, G. TIMBERLAKE, LONG SERVICE As one of the directors of Watford FC, George Timberlake was instrumental in the process of getting the club elected into the Football League in season 1920-21, having finished Southern League runners-up the previous season. George Timberlake was also a councillor and alderman of the Watford Borough Council. At the age of 14 he had lost a leg in an accident with a pit train in Sheffield where he grew up. This disability meant that he was unable to serve on the front and so he was close to the helm at the football club during these difficult years. He was also instrumental in finding and establishing the Vicarage Road ground.
