Allan Clarke's 1971 Fairs Cup winner's presentation in the form of a silver plated miniature replica of the competition's Noel Beard trophy, inscribed COUPE EUROPE DES FOIRES, , TROPHEE NOEL BEARD, VAINQUEUR 1971, mounted on an ebonised base, 17cm., 6 3/4in.; sold together with a signed letter of provenance from Allan Clarke (2) This was the last season of the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup competition. In season 1971-72 it was replaced by the UEFA Cup, which gave UEFA direct control over European football. The First Leg was played in Turin on 26th May 1971, but the match had to be abandoned in the 51st minute, with the score at 0-0, after the pitch became waterlogged. The match was replayed two days later and ended as a 2-2 draw. Incidentally, England manager Fabio Capello scored the 2nd Juventus goal that night. Madeley & Bates were the Leeds goalscorers. The 2nd Leg at Elland Road also finished as a draw, but by a 1-1 scoreline which meant that Leeds United lifted the trophy on the away goals rule.
