An opening stand of 166 between Jesse Ryder, who would go on to score a century, and Brendon McCullum had put the hosts on course at the tiny AMI Stadium. The decisive passage of play for India was the dismissal of New Zealand next five batsmen for just 40 runs between them. The tail wagged with Kyle Mills scoring a half-century but the damage had been done and the home team were dismissed in the 45th over for 334 runs.
