A hand-written letter from the tennis player Bill Tilden, in black fountain pen ink on a single side of a sheet of light beige Hotel Peabody headed stationery (approx. 6 by 9 1/2in) signed at the close 'Bill' by the first American tennis player to compete at Wimbledon and who during the 1920s was undefeated for seven years, the letter to Arthur Anderson, affectionately referred to as 'Stinky', is accompanied by the original mailing envelope addressed in Tilden's hand, with expected mailing folds and light shades of toning to the piece, which do not affect the signature, In part the letter reads ''Here is a check to cover your reservation & ticket to Boston from Chicago. . .Wire me from Chicago to the Statler what time you are due in Boston''
