A rare German cricket-themed Westerwald stoneware drinking set circa 1890, comprising a blue glazed tapering and pewter-lidded beer jug, and a set of four beer mugs all with German phrases associated with beer drinking, for example, one reads ''a good beer will help the old stay younger'', the jug measures 30.5 cm., 12in. high and has five moulded cricketers with a resemblance to W.G. Grace around the body along with, oddly, a tennis player too, the bottom of the jug is impressed with the number 239, the handle is formed in the shape of 3 cricket bats held together with strapping and positioned beneath a wide rimmed summer hat and what appear to be cricket boots
