A period studio photograph of the Warwickshire CCC cricketer Frank field, a 5 1/2 by 4in. b&w photograph published by Whitlock of Birmingham, framed & glazed, 33 by 25.5cm., 13 by 10in.; sold together with a Warwickshire CCC dinner menu celebrating the County Championship season at the Grand Hotel, Birmingham, 21st September 1911, printed with portraits of the players including Frank Field (2) Frank Ernest Field was born at Weethley, Warwickshire, 23rd September 1874. The fast bowler took a total of 1,026 first-class wickets between 1897 and 1920, although this could have been a lot more if his career had not been blighted by injuries and interrupted by the Great War. His bowling partnership with Frank Foster helped Warwickshire claim the County Championship title in 1911 and thereby breaking the stranglehold on the Championship held by the 'big six' of Yorkshire, Lancashire, Middlesex, Surrey, Nottinghamshire & Kent. Field had his best season taking 146 wickets. Frank Field died at Droitwich, 25th August 1934.
