A collection of Victorian cabinet cards and cartes-de-visites of racing personalities, many of the 23 cabinet cards (6 1/2 by 4 1/4in.) published by the Newmarket photographer H.R. Sherborn, subjects including two of the Dawsons (believed to be Joseph & John), Mr Arnull, Mr Enoch, Mr P Price, William Gilbert (trainer of Cremorne, 1872 Derby), Martin Gurry (trainer of Merry Hampton (1887 Derby), Robert Sherwood (owner of the 1855 Derby winner Wild Dayrell), Mr Golding, A B Sadler, the jockeys Howard, Bruckshaw, Locke, Liddiard, Blake, Brown and other subjects, some unidentified; together with eight cartes-de-visites, four featuring Fred Archer, the others portraying Charles Wood, George Fordham, Tom Cannon & Harry Grimshaw, the last two framed (31)
