Richard Stone Reeves (1919-2005) THE MINSTREL DEFEATS HOT GROVE, THE 1977 DERBY an artist's proof for a limited edition print published by the Newmarket Gallery of New York City in 1978, signed and dedicated in pencil from the artist to the winning jockey Lester Piggott, ''FOR LESTER PIGGOTT, THE GREATEST JOCKEY OF ALL, DICK REEVES, mounted, framed & glazed, a sheet of literature regarding the work taped to the backboard, the image 25.5 by 41cm., 10 by 16in.; sold together a copy of the limited edition book 'Classic Lines: A Gallery of the Greatest Thoroughbreds' by Richard Stone Reeves and Patrick Robinson, signed by Robinson, and numbered 2,900/25,000 (2) Robert Sangster's striking chestnut colt The Minstrel, a son of Northern Dancer, provided Lester Piggott with the eighth of his nine Derby winners. The colt also won the Irish Derby and the King George at Ascot.
