International Stakes lemonade jug and stirrer commemorating the winners from 1952 to 1971, decorated with a print of a jockey and inscribed with the details of all winners from Wilwyn in 1952 to Run The Gauntlet in 1971, 23.5cm., 9 1/4in. high The Washington DC International was a ground breaking race founded by John D. Schapiro, the owner of Laurel Park Racecourse in Maryland in 1952. It was the first race designed to match the best horses of the USA and Europe over a mile and a half. It was held until 1994, with the Breeders' Cup programme taking over. Lester Piggott won the race three times, a record he shares with Manny Ycaza.
