J. Montgomery (British 20th Century) A.J.S. 7R MOTORCYCLE a large oil on canvas held in a substantial carved wooden frame, signed by the artist and depicting the famous 350cc road-race motorcycle in its original 1948 production guise, 61 by 92cm., 24 by 36 in. Helped by the company's strong racing pedigree, the new AJS 7R model broke fresh ground in 1948 when it became the first racing design to go into mass production. No less than 25 of these OHC single-cylinder machines were entered for that year's Junior TT and it soon became known as 'The Boys' Racer'. It also proved a magnet for the 'ton-up' brigade and was the forerunner of today's modern Superbike.
