Garden Grant Smith RSW (1860-1913) CROSSING JORDAN, PAU signed & dated '97, watercolour, 27 by 37cm., 10 1/2 by 14 1/2in. This watercolour was reproduced as an illustration in Garden Smith's 1898 publication 'The World of Golf', in chapter XIV, Continental Golf. Pau Golf Club is the oldest Golf Club in continental Europe, established in 1856 and Garden Smith's work must surely be one of the earliest known paintings of continental golf.
