A signed photograph of the boxing champion Jimmy Wilde dated 1916, a 6 BY 4IN. black & white studio portrait photograph issued by the Central News Ltd., signed and inscribed in ink to the mount directly beneath the photo YOURS TRULY, JIMMY WILDE, TO MY OLD PAL CHARLIE AUSTON, 6.5.1916; sold together with a mounted b&w photograph of the boxer Bombadier Billy Wells posed in boxing kit with his cups and trophies, the image 11 by 8in. (2) Twelve days before Wilde signed this photograph, he had won the world flyweight title when beating Johnny Rosner by an 11th round knockout in the Liverpool Stadium. A week after signing the picture Wilde was back in the ring again when he won two fights in the same day at Woolwich Dockyard against Darkey Saunders and Joe Magnus.
