After Charles Martin Hardie DIAMOND JUBILEE PICTURE OF THE ROYAL CALEDONIAN CURLING CLUB a scarce coloured photogravure published by Goupil & Co circa 1899, mounted but unframed, some restoration, the image 56 by 91.5cm., 22 by 36in. Hardie's original oil painting hangs in the National Galleries of Scotland. The work was commissioned to celebrate the diamond jubilee of the Royal Caledonian Curling Club in 1899 and depicts a grand match between north and south at Carsebreck in 1898. The sixty one figures are all portraits and a detailed key to their identities was published. The club owned the site at Carsebreck in Perthshire, which was deliberately flooded to form a safe playing surface for grand matches. Provenance: The Collection of Lord Aberdare (1919-2005)
