Just Fontaine's blue France No.17 jersey worn during the 1958 World Cup when he set an unsurpassed record for the number of goals scored in a World Cup finals tournament, long-sleeved; sold with a signed hand written letter in French from Just Fontaine authenticating the jersey; the lot also including two photographs featuring Fontaine and the French team at the 1958; and a copy of Paris Match magazine signed by Fontaine on the front cover which featured a photograph of him (5) Provenance: Sold at Bonhams 27th March 2002 as 'Property of Just Fontaine.' Famously, Jules Fontaine created a goal scoring record at the 1958 World Cup netting no less than 13 times in six matches. The record has remained unsurpassed. In creating this record, Fontaine scored a hat-trick v Paraguay, a brace versus Yugoslavia, one goal against Scotland, two at the expense of Northern Ireland, one against Brazil and a magnificent four goals against West Germany.
