A 9ct. gold & enamel Northern Rugby Union Lancashire League Second Division Championship medal 1898-99 won by T. Kitchin of Millom RLFC, fully engraved with the above details Millom RLFC are the oldest amateur rugby league club in the world being formed in 1873 and still going strong today fielding a first team in the First Division of the National Conference League. The first season of rugby league in 1895-96 saw all the breakaway clubs play in a single league competition. The addition of new teams and the problems of travelling led to the league being split in two for the following season; the Yorkshire League and the Lancashire League, the latter relating to the medal in this lot. The County arrangement lasted until the 1901-02, when the top clubs from each league resigned and formed a single new competition.
