Dai Harris's 'other nationalities' cap from the historic first Rugby League international match v England 5th April 1904, designed with alternating panels of blue, green & red velvet with wirework crest bearing dragon, thistle and shamrock national emblems and inscribed 1903-04, wirework tassel The world's first international Rugby League match took place at Central Park, Wigan, on 5th April 1904 with England playing an 'other nationalities' team. The game had been scheduled to take place on New Year's Day at Oldham but a severe frost led to its postponement, and it was re-scheduled for the spring. The 'other nationalities' team was in fact comprised entirely of Welsh players apart from the two Scottish forwards Jim Moffatt and George Frater, the latter chosen as captain. The present cap was awarded to Dai Harris who was playing on his home ground at Wigan, a club for whom he made 44 appearances and scored 7 tries. Match reports confirm Harris was an influential force of the field of play and scored the final try of the match as the O.N. side defeated England by 9 points to 3.
