A curved faced sand iron formerly used by the legendary American champion Bobby Jones and later used as a trophy club by the Oxford University Golf Club, retailed by Ernest Sales of Sunningdale, 'illegal' curved face, the hickory shaft and sheepskin grip ringed along its length for winner's inscription plates, now with just the original presentation plate extant, engraved PRESENTED TO THE OXFORD UNIVERSITY GOLF CLUB, BY R.H. OPPENHEIMER, 1952, THIS CLUB WAS ONCE USED BY BOBBY JONES This club was presented to Oxford University Golf Club by Raymond Oppenheimer who was a member of the family who own the De Beers diamond mines in South Africa. He was a prominent figure in British golf for many years and was a selector for the Walker Cup and captained the team at Royal Birkdale in 1951. Bobby Jones had been twice a Walker Cup captain in 1928 & 1930.
