Willie Dunn junior's Forgan putter used when winning the first American Open Championship in 1894, LATER PRESENTED BY HIS SON N.W. DUNN TO THE LONDON SCOTTISH GOLFING SOCIETY IN 1962 FOR USE AS THE ''PRESIDENT'S PUTTER'' AT THE LONDON SCOTTISH GOLF CLUB, WIMBLEDON COMMON, sold with N.W. Dunn's original presentation letter for the putter addressed to the London Scottish Golfing Society, dated 30th March 1962, and for the attention of J.A. Scott Esq., Honarary Secretary, reading: ''DEAR MR SCOTT, THANK YOU FOR YOUR NOTE DATED 28TH INSTANT. I HAVE BEEN LOOKING THROUGH MY GOLF MUSEUM AND CAREFULLY SELECTED A CLUB WHICH HAS HAD MORE CONNECTIONS WITH THE ''SCOTTISH'' THAN ANY OTHER. IT IS A GRACEFUL OLD FORGAN PUTTER WITH A LANCE WOOD SHAFT USED BY MY FATHER AND [LATER] MYSELF. THE HISTORY READS SOMETHING LIKE THIS: MY FATHER ''YOUNG WILLIE DUNN'' (NOW DECEASED) SPENT A PORTION OF HIS YOUTH PLAYING ON WIMBLEDON COMMON AND HAD MANY GAMES WITH MEMBERS OF THE REGIMENT. HE KNEW LORD ELCHO. FATHER THEN WENT TO BIARRITZ AND EVENTUALLY TO AMERICA WHERE HE WON THE FIRST AMERICAN OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP IN 1894. HE USED THIS PUTTER AT THE TIME. EVENTUALLY IT CAME INTO THE HANDS OF [MYSELF] 1323 PTE. N.W. DUNN, E. COY., LONDON SCOTTISH, WHO WAS LUCKY WITH IT IN THE YORKSHIRE AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP 1926 AND THE LINCOLNSHIRE AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP 1934 ..., sent with a covering letter from N.W. Dunn's secretary, and a subsequent thank you letter from J.A. Scott (4) The 1894 US Open Championship is deemed unofficial as it was not sanctioned by the USGA and was conducted by match play rules.
