Bobby Evans's blue Scotland v England international cap 1958-59, with gold braid and tassel, inscribed S V E, 1958-59; sold with an unrelated scanned photograph of Celtic's famous 1957 League Cup final team, featuring Evans, that beat Rangers 7-1 (2) Bobby Evans (Celtic & Scotland) The flame-haired Glaswegian Bobby Evans signed for Celtic from the junior side St Anthony's in 1944. He made his League debut in 1946-47 and quickly established himself as a stalwart of the side. The half-back was renowned for his tough tackling, strength in the air, fierce competitiveness and boundless stamina. He was also an intelligent passer who could masterfully link defence with attack. As well as domestic honours with Celtic, most notably the League and Cup double in 1954, Evans won a total of 45 international caps for Scotland. After 535 appearances in a hooped shirt, Evans transferred to Chelsea in season 1960-61. After a season at Newport County, Evans returned to Scotland where he had spells with Morton, Third Lanark and Raith Rovers, retiring after 22 seasons of professional football in 1968. Bobby Evans later life was plagued by ill health and he died 5th September 2001 having suffered from Parkinson's Disease for several years. The Parkhead star was inducted into the Scottish Football Hall of Fame in 2008.
