The No.23 number cloth carried by Tap on Wood when winning the 2,000 Guineas in 1979 signed by Steve Cauthen and Barry Hills Kentucky-born jockey Steve Cauthen became the youngest rider to win the US Triple Crown aboard Affirmed in 1978 aged 18. Due to weight problems, the following April the 'Six Million Dollar Kid' arrived in England to further his career and made an immediate impact winning the 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket on 15th May 1979, his first ride in an English Classic . He went on to win 10 Classics including the Derby twice and also holds the unique distinction of riding the winner of the Kentucky, Epsom, Irish and French Derbies.
