A 14ct. gold F.A. Cup winner's medal presented to Arsenal's goalkeeper Alex Wilson in 1936, inscribed THE FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION, WINNERS, ARSENAL F.C. 1935-36, A.WILSON, in fitted case Alexander Wilson (1908-1971) was born in Wishaw, Lanarkshire. In May 1933 he was signed by Arsenal from Greenock Morton. Wilson remained second choice goalkeeper in his first two seasons for Arsenal, playing only fifteen times, including the last nine games of season 1934-35 after Moss dislocated his shoulder. Moss's injury did not heal and Wilson found himself as the Gunners' No. 1 throughout the 1935-36 season and kept goal in that season's F.A. Cup final. However, Wilson's performances were not strong enough for manager George Allison who signed not one but two goalkeepers during the close season.
