A Malcolm Campbell-signed Land Speed Record event cover, franked FEB 22 1933 and stamped NEW RECORD 273 M.P.H., with a motif bearing the legend INTERNATIONAL SPEED TRIALS 1933 above an impression of his Bluebird car at speed and DAYTONA BEACH, FLORIDA, the reverse bearing seventeen signatures, including Malcolm Campbell, Leo Villa and other members of the Bluebird team, along with various officials and observers representing the A.A.A., 8.5 by 14cm., 3? by 5?in., estimate In 1933 Sir Malcolm Campbell set a speed of 272.46mph to break his own Land Speed Record. His 'Bluebird' car now weighed four tons and was powered by a Rolls-Royce V-12, 36?-litre, 2,500 h.p. aero engine similar to the one used by Supermarine to win the 1931 Schneider Trophy in the forerunner of their famous WW2 fighter plane, the Spitfire. This was the fourth of five Land Speed Records Campbell would set on Daytona Beach, all in front of vast crowds. In 1935 he transferred to the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah and became the first man to break the 300mph barrier.
