Michael Scott OBE (1878-1959) is perhaps best remembered as being the oldest winner of the Amateur Championship, being 54 years old when winning the event at Hoylake in 1933. He emigrated to Australia where he won four national amateur championships as well as many other titles. Scott also won the French twice and was a member of the 1924 and 1934 GB Walker Cup teams, latterly as captain - setting a record as the oldest player in that event, a record that still stands to this day. Scott was also captain at Royal St George's Golf Club. Michael Scott was the son of John Scott, 3rd Earl of Eldon, and the youngest of seven children. A number of his siblings were also fine golfers, most notably Lady Margaret Scott who won the first three British Ladies' Championships from 1893 to 1895 upon which she then retired. The Hon. Osmund Scott was the runner up at the 1905 Amateur Championship, and the Hon. Denys Scott also competed in the tournament.
