A white England v Ireland international cap 1889, This cap was awarded for Harry Daft's England international debut in the match v Ireland played at Anfield 2nd March 1889. England won 6-1. This was the first England international match ever played at Anfield. There have been seven other England internationals played there subsequently, the most recent being Uruguay 1st March 2006. Harry Daft (Notts County and England) Lots 3 to 7 Harry Butler Daft was born at Radcliffe-on-Trent 5th April 1866. The speedy left winger was one of the outstanding amateurs of his day. An all-round sportsman he also excelled at lacrosse where he won international honours and played First Class Cricket for Nottinghamshire CCC. He joined Notts County FC after leaving Trent College in the 1880s and played there until December 1894, except for a brief period at rival Forest between January and August 1893. He won a total of five England caps, all on offer in this auction, and also played in two F.A. Cup final and was a winner in 1894. He also served on the F.A. Committee in 1884-85 and represented the Football League twice. After his playing days he was connected with Oxford University CC and umpired many of their matches up until the First World War. Harry Daft died 12th January 1945.
