He joined Liverpool in October 1974 for a fee of ?66,000. The extraordinarily consistent and injury-free attacking right-back missed only one League match in ten seasons between 1976-76 and 1984-85. Neal was integral part of an outstanding Liverpool side. He was a European Cup winner in 1977, 1978, 1981 & 1984 and a finalist in 1985. He won a UEFA Cup in 1976, Football League Championship titles in 1976, 1977, 1979, 1980, 1982, 1983 & 1984 and four consecutive Football League Cups between 1981 & 1984, as well as being a finalist in 1978. The only trophy to elude him was the F.A.Cup, a runners-up medal in 1977 being his consolation. For England Phil Neal won a half-century of international caps between 1976 and 1984 and was a member of the 1980 European Championship and 1982 World Cup squads. After his playing days he took a managerial appointment at Bolton Wanderers.
