A Jack Kramer personal tennis racquet, being a Wilson Jack Kramer Autograph Speed Flex Fibre Face model, the side of the handle applied with two metal plaques embossed BIG JAKE; sold with a b&w photograph of Jack Kramer holding this very racquet at Sheen LTC just over 50 years ago together with the current vendor, David Potter, then a Surrey County coach, to whom Kramer presented this racquet (2) Jack Albert Kramer was born in Las Vegas 1st August 1921. He was No.1 in the world for a number of years during the 1940s. He is many a commentator's choice as the greatest player of all time and took the serve-and-volley game to new heights and was a powerful advocate of 'percentage play.' Kramer won two US titles and was the champion at Wimbledon in 1947. He was also an important figure in the establishment of open tennis between amateurs and professionals. David Potter, who received this racquet from Kramer, was the national under-21 champion and enjoyed a career as a LTA professional and a B.T.C.A. national coach.
