After J.B. Rowbotham and J. Brown THE GREAT CONTEST BETWEEN SAYERS AND HEENAN colour engraving by J.R. Mackrell and J.B Rowbotham with photographs by G. Bonner, published by C. Roker, Old Kent Road, mounted, framed & glazed, the image 39.5 by 56cm., 15 1/2 by 22in.; sold together with an aquatint by Henry Alken senior engraved by Clark titled 'A Prize Fight,' published by T McLean, 1820, the image 19 by 29cm., 7 1/2 by 11 1/2in.; and a modern ceramic mug decorated with a scene of the fight between Spring and Langan (3) The ?200 Sayers v Heenan fight took place at Farnborough on 17th April 1860. The contest lasted for 2 hours and 6 minutes but ended as a draw. It was significant because of the international nature of the fight, with Heenan an American challenger.
