A silver salver presented to George Hardwick by Jules Rimet on the occasion of the Great Britain v Europe match at Hampden Park 10th May 1947, by Goldsmiths and Silversmiths Company, hallmarked, London, 1909, inscribed GREAT BRITAIN V EUROPE, HAMPDEN PARK, GLASGOW, MAY 10TH 1947, PRESENTED BY JULES RIMET, PRESIDENT FIFA, TO GEORGE HARDWICK, CAPTAIN OF THE GREAT BRITAIN TEAM IN APPRECIATION OF YOUR CONTRIBUTION TO THE 'MATCH OF THE CENTURY', engraved with the signatures of all the players from both sides and also the GB manager Walter Winterbottom, trainer Hughie Shaw, the referee and his two linesmen, diameter 25.5cm., 10in; sold with a key for identification of the signatures; the lot also including a signed photograph of Hardwick shaking hands with the opposing captain before kick off (3) This was bought at the auction of the George Hardwick Collection at Mullock Madeley Auctioneers.
