Printed verse commemorating the victory of Elizabeth in the 1880 1,000 Guineas, Smiling Spring beams on Newmarket, Phoebus sheds his brightest ray, 'Tis to welcome England's fair ones on the great 'One Thousand Day,' etc., etc., composed by G. Parker and dated April 30, 1880; sold together with a racing jacket with purple body and scarlet sleeves and a white cap by Seale & Inman of New Bond Street, the jacket and cap bearing inventory labels dated 1928 (3) Mr T.E. Walker first registered his purple, scarlet and white colours in 1870 and witnessed his filly Elizabeth carry them to victory in the 1,000 Guineas of 1880. The colours transferred to Mr T.H. Walker, presumably on his death and to his son, in 1899. Elizabeth was trained by Joseph Dawson and ridden by Charlie Wood in the 1,000 Guineas. The memorabilia in this lot came from the Walker family.
