A white England v Ireland international cap 1910, sold with a related illuminated address presented on behalf of the inhabitants of Wordsley, Staffordshire, to their home town Aston Villa player Albert Hall in recognition of winning the F.A. Cup in 1905, framed & glazed, overall 58.5 by 47cm., 23 by 18 1/2in. (2) This cap was won by Aston Villa's splendidly named Albert Hall for the match played in Belfast on 12th February 1910. The game ended as a 1-1 draw. It was Hall's one and only appearance for his country. Albert Edward Hall was born at Wordsley in Staffordshire in 1882, hence the illuminated address included in this lot. He joined Aston Villa from Stourbridge in the close season of 1903. The outside-left formed a formidable striking partnership with Villa's celebrated Joe Bache. Hall won a F.A. Cup winner's medal in 1905 and a Championship medal in 1910. Hall also represented the Football League on two occasions. He joined Millwall Athletic late in 1913 but retired during World War One to join the 5th South Staffordshire Regiment, and had the misfortune to be badly gassed that left him suffering from ill-health for the rest of his life. After the war he became an enamel ware manufacturer in Stourbridge but was forced to retire and live in the country until his death on 17th October 1957.
