Fred Tilson: a white England international shirt circa 1934-35, woollen, long-sleeved with button-up collar and embroidered three lions cloth badge Samuel Frederick Tilson was born at Barnsley 19th April 1904. He transferred from Barnsley to Manchester City in March 1928 and in the proceeding decade the centre-forward/inside-left won a Championship medal and a F.A. Cup winner's medal. This shirt was worn by Fred Tilson during one of his four appearances for England, namely Hungary 10.5.1934, Czechoslovakia 16.5.34, Wales 29.9.35 & Northern Ireland 19.10.35. Tilson scored in every match netting a total of six goals altogether, a fine record considering that all four of his internationals were aways. Provenance: Christie's, 29th September 2000, Lot 385
