A set of four racecards for Royal Ascot 13th to 16th June 1854, scarce Oxley's Authentic Cards, folded vertically & printed on each leaf Due to the outbreak of the Crimea War in 1854 the race ran as The Emperor of Russia's Plate from 1845 to 1853 reverted to its original title The Gold Cup. The race was won by Mr Bowes's historic racehorse West Australian, who had become the first winner of the Triple Crown the previous season. Elsewhere Mr Gully's 2,000 Guineas winner The Hermit won The Gold Vase.
