A set of four racecards for Royal Ascot 10th to 13th June 1845, scarce H. Whetton's Authentic Cards, the first three folded vertically & printed on each leaf, the other a single leaf, the Wednesday card seemingly misprinted 1844; together with a newspaper-style H. Whettons List, printed both sides, complete with results for the first three days (5) 1845 Emperor of Russia's Plate was won appropriately by The Emperor, a horse who had been hitherto unnamed but christened in honour of the Emperor of Russia when he won the The Gold Cup the previous year. It was this gesture that led The Emperor to provide the plate for the race from this year 1845. By coincidence, a print of this race after J.F. Herring is being sold elsewhere in this sale as lot 604.
