A unique Stevenson Brothers English burr oak rocking horse bedecked with racing memorabilia, a privately commissioned one-off rocking horse with hair & tack donated by racehorse owners & trainers, the browband is from Desert Orchid, the stirrups & stirrup leathers are from Hedgehunter's 2005 Grand National victory, and the reins are from Kicking King, a proportion of the rocking horse's mane & tail is made from hair from Grand National winners, additionally woven pleats of hair from the winners can be found under the mane, the Grand National winners comprise: Hallo Dandy, Party Politics, Miinnehoma, Lord Gyllene, Earth Summit, Papillon, Red Marauder, Bindaree, Monty's Pass & Hedgehunter, and from the Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Desert Orchid, the lower platform fitted with a horse shoe from the Grand National winner Rough Quest and a plaque to commemorate this auction, 5ft. high by 6ft. long, can seat an adult Mrs Ruth Blair from Palacerigg near Glasgow approached Stevenson Brothers in March 2004 to create a unique rocking horse to help raise funds for the Weipers Centre for Equine Welfare, Glasgow University. Since its inception in 1995, the Weipers Centre has been providing high quality service to the equine community of Scotland and northern England. The centre has treated everything from children's ponies to Cheltenham winners. Mrs Blair's Shetland pony Belle has been receiving treatment from Weipers for over 10 years and was the inspiration for the project. The twin brothers Marc & Tony Stevenson set up their business in 1982 with the goals of reintroducing the rocking horse as a today item in the children's nursery and to establish themselves as the finest makers in the world. They have now made over 6,000 individually hand crafted horses and their impressive client list includes Her Majesty The Queen, The Sultan of Brunei, Dr Michael Smurfit, Frankie Dettori & Martin Pipe. No other rocking horse has been made from this highly prized English burr oak timber. Ruth Blair has been working tirelessly on the project and has received a superb response from figures approached in the racing community.
