A silver presentation salver engraved with the signatures of the 1925 Yorkshire County Cricket champions, hallmarked Sheffield, 1924, signatures of Macaulay, Sutcliffe, Waddington, Holmes, Rhodes, Lupton, Dolphin, Robinson, Oldroyd, Leyland & Kilner, additionally inscribed YORKSHIRE XI, 1925, TO MELTON FROM MAC., 1925, diameter 25.5cm., 10in. 'Melton' was Melton Vasey, the well-known racehorse trainer whose stables were at Doncaster, South Yorkshire, and who is an antecedent of the present vendor. By all accounts the Yorkshire team enjoyed a day at the races and it is said that when there was a meeting in Yorkshire they determined to win a match in two days to afford them the necessary time off. The salver was in all probability financed by a win on one of Mr Vasey's horses and presented by the Yorkshire & England cricketer George Macaulay.
