An exceedingly rare Francis Brewster 'Simplex' cross head dual purpose lofter and driving putter, with original mortised hickory shaft, the shaft being made in 2 pieces, a small part inserted into the head, the long part mortised into the shorter, the head bears brass inserts one of which is faintly stamped 17 1/2 OZ., the old replacement grip has been shortened which perfectly accounts for the club weighing slightly less than the stamped weight, also one small brass insert at the top of the driver putter face is missing, in generally reasonable condition, overall length 95cm., 37 1/2in. Similar but not identical clubs are featured in the chapter on multipurpose clubs in Geoffrey Ellis's The Clubmaker's Art.
