The filly Blink Bonny, by Melbourne out of Queen Mary, won 8 of her 11 races as two-year-old before achieving the rare feat of winning the Derby and the Oaks in 1857. There was a scandal in the St Leger when her jockey Charlton 'pulled' her, having been bribed by the corrupt bookmaker John Jackson. Blink Bonny became the dam of the 1864 Derby winner Blair Athol.
