DAVIS, DIRECTOR During World War II a number of 'cup finals' were played. The first of these was an encounter between West Ham United and Blackburn Rovers at Wembley in 1939-40. A crowd of 42,399 watched the Hammers win 1-0 through a goal by Small. Albert (''Bert'') C. Davis was a famous Director of West Ham United. An engineer by profession, he had a long association with the Hammers. As a Director this was in two spells between 1900 to 1906, and 1923 to 1949.
